Middlesbrough are closing in on a £5 million deal for Millwall attacking midfielder Jed Wallace, according to OneBoro.
Middlesbrough had a bid rejected earlier today for Millwall pair Jed Wallace and George Saville for a combined £10 million, but now an outright bid for Wallace alone of £5 million may be enough to allow the attacking midfielder man to leave.
Boro are actively looking to replace the departed Adama Traore, who joined Premier League new boys Wolves earlier this week. Wallace could be seen as the man to fill the Spaniard’s boots, with the Millwall man a cheaper option than Everton’s Yannick Bolasie, who Middlesbrough are also monitoring.
Wallace’s versatility will stand him in good stead in a team like Middlesbrough. He is able to play on either wing and as a number 10 and will provide competition for the likes of Stewart Downing and Martin Braithwaite.
The midfielder only signed for Millwall last year, and penned a long term deal with the club after two successful loan spells with the Lions in 2016 and 2017. He signed from Wolves for an undisclosed fee and has gone on to make 25 appearances since signing on a permanent basis, scoring five goals in the process.
Wallace made a name for himself at Portsmouth after being given his debut in 2011 at the age of 17, and played over 100 games for Pompey after graduating from the academy.
He was a major part of Millwall’s promotion campaign up from League One and has been a mainstay in the side ever since. They will not be looking to part company easily, but Middlesbrough may have twisted their arm on deadline day today.
