Manchester City defender ‘said no’ to Leeds United earlier today

Leeds United made an approach for Manchester City defender Jason Denayer earlier today, according to Turkish news site Foto Mac.

Leeds United reportedly made an offer for Manchester City centre-back Jason Denayer, but the Belgian centre-back rejected them.

The Turkish site state that Denayer rejected Leeds United because he wants to play in the Champions League. Galatasaray have been keen to bring in Denayer all summer, and they could bring him in this summer. The European transfer window stays open until the end of August, meaning that they can purchase players from England despite the fact the window closed earlier tonight in England.

Galatasaray won the Turkish Super League last season, meaning they have qualified for the Champions League, and Denayer may prefer a move to Turkey because of this.

Denayer has already played for Galatasarary, as he played for them for the 2015/16 season and could be keen to return to Turkey with Gala.

However, Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa could look to use his friendship with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to bring in Denayer on loan. Guardiola offered Bielsa some of his best young talents on loan after he joined Leeds earlier in the summer, and winger Jack Harrison has joined on loan.

Denayer’s future doesn’t seem like it is going to be decided imminently, and his destination could be decided late on in August. Leeds United will be hopeful they can bring in Denayer on loan to reinforce their defensive options, with Everton’s Matty Pennington also being linked with a return to Elland Road.
