Ipswich striker is one of two Bolton are keen on signing today

The Bolton News understands that Bolton Wanderers have tabled two bids for two strikers, one of which is Ipswich Town’s Joe Garner. Phil Parkinson is looking to add to his roster, especially in the forward areas, prior to the 5pm deadline later today.

Garner is currently out of action due to injury, but Parkinson is certainly keen on adding him to his squad to give them another option higher up the pitch. Josh Magennis of Charlton Athletic was recently added in this area, plus they have the likes of Adam Le Fondre and other summer recruit Clayton Donaldson. Nevertheless, Garner is proven at Championship level and would love to sign him up.

The loan market of course closes much later this month, and this is something Bolton are paying close attention to as well. Birmingham City duo David Stockdale and Jonathan Grounds are two that the club are hoping to snap up, although there is no pressure to conclude any loan deals before 5pm today. Jed Steer of Aston Villa is another potential signing, should they miss out on goalkeeper Stockdale, too.

In the case of Garner, it looks as though Tractor Boys boss Paul Hurst is happy for him to move on. Whilst Martyn Waghorn has departed for Derby County, plus David McGoldrick left much earlier in the summer, Garner’s injury record has meant he has struggled for game time; certainly as much as he’d like. Ellis Harrison has been added from Bristol Rovers, and Kayden Jackson of Accrington Stanley is another big target of theirs for later today.
