Blackburn Rovers launch audacious last-minute £5m bid for Nottingham Forest striker

With just 40 minutes to go in the transfer window, Blackburn Rovers have launched a somewhat audacious bid to sign Nottingham Forest striker Ben Brereton in a deal worth £5m – that will really test Forest’s resolve in the closing stages of this transfer window.

The young striker has netted on eight occasions in the 53 appearances for Nottingham Forest but at the age of just 19, he has all the makings to become a serious talent, if he is given the game-time that he needs to develop during the forthcoming season.

Brereton has been a large part of England’s youth set-up, making 18 appearances for the U19’s side and scoring on five occasions for them, once again proving he has huge potential.

Blackburn’s bid for Brereton will be really interesting to follow in the closing stages of this transfer window, with Forest more than likely wanting to keep the young striker, mainly due to his capacity to grow with the club, but also the dilemma that Aitor Karanka has spent big on forwards this summer, and the immediate focus should be on aiming for promotion with his current, experienced team.

It would be an easy way to get £5m into Forest to cover the clubs summer spending, but the main problem with this is they could potentially lose out on a young player who would be a fantastic asset for seasons to come.

Whether Forest will sell Brereton or not, it remains to be seen, but they have a short frame of time to get a deal over the line.
