Snodgrass, Aston Villa unlikely to be re-signing popular winger

Aston Villa unlikely to be re-signing popular winger

The Daily Mail claims that it is extremely unlikely that Robert Snodgrass will be returning to Aston Villa. His current club, West Ham United, wish for him to remain with the club. Steve Bruce had been hopeful of securing a deal to lure him back to Villa Park this season.

Snodgrass was a huge fans’ favourite last season and played a huge role in helping Aston Villa get all the way to the Sky Bet Championship play-off final. The now improved financial situation at the club increased hope with supporters that the former Leeds United midfielder would return, but all hope of that looks to have been squashed.

Quite simply, new Hammers manager Manuel Pellegrini wants him to stay and he has featured quite regularly during their pre-season programme so far. The Premier League campaign gets going again this weekend and it will be interesting to see what role Snodgrass shall play in the team.

All hope however is not lose for Aston Villa in this quest. They could return with a bid prior to the 5pm transfer deadline later today. Last season, they paid 60% of his wages during the temporary stint, with West Ham are not willing for that to be the case again, and would want it paid entirely. Nevertheless, Pellegrini seems to have had his say and wants his to remain on the books.

Snodgrass made 40 Championship appearances for Villa last season, netting a decent return of seven goals. Since joining West Ham from Hull City in January 2017, he has struggled to make an impact.
