Aston Villa could fight Leeds United and West Brom for League One star if they lose Jack Grealish

The Summer transfer window ends tomorrow, and Aston Villa could still lose playmaker Jack Grealish, with Spurs reportedly lodging a £25m bid this morning.

Steve Bruce will need to find a replacement fast, with Spurs looming around Jack Grealish. Aston Villa will need to bring in a new playmaker, and they will struggle to find a better bargain than Peterborough United’s star man Marcus Maddison.

At a bargain £2.5m, clubs will struggle to find a better playmaker than Maddison. In 177 games with The Posh, Maddison has assisted 61 goals, and scored 42.

Whilst at Gateshead in 2014, manager Gary Mills sung his praises. saying:

“He has an unbelievable talent, he wants to score goals and can score goals, with a magical left foot. On the other side, he works hard. Marcus was a selfish lad when I first came to the football club and now he’s a match-winner and team player.”

Mills made this comment only a few weeks prior to his move to Peterborough United, where his career has really kicked on. However, after four years at London Road, the club have failed to get promoted. Marcus Maddison has been linked with moves away for two years now, but has been persuaded to stay at Posh. But after four years, the playmaker seems set to move on.

BirminghamLive reported that manager Steve Bruce ‘absolutely loves’ Maddison, and could make a bargain signing of just £2.5m if Grealish moves on. Maddison was part of the Posh side that tore Villa apart in a historic 1-3 win at Villa Park in the FA Cup third round in January.

HITC Sports’ Pete O’Rourke reported that Leeds United were set to face competition from West Brom and Reading in their chase to sign the 24-year-old. But now, Villa could enter the race for Maddison, with the chase for his signature hotting up with the window closing tomorrow.
