Birmingham City take Manchester City linked striker on trial

Birmingham City have taken Joel Mumbongo on trial according to a report from the Birmingham Mail.

The 19-year-old striker, who is an international for the Sweden U19s, is current contracted to Utsiktens but with a year left on his current deal, he is likely to leave the club. And he has been hotly tracked by many teams in England looking to get his signature. Teams such as Everton, Manchester City, Middlesbrough and Wolves have all taken a look at Mumbongo and are now interested in signing him. He also spent some time on trial at Brentford last season.

But the latest team to be interested in signing Mumbongo is Birmingham. They have taken him on trial and this report states he has been training at the club for the last week. And it goes on to say that the Birmingham coaches were very impressed with him during this trial and that they could follow this up with a contract offer in the near future.

Even though Birmingham are under a transfer embargo right now, the EFL has said that they can register five new players before the end of the transfer window. But even with that good news, most of the signings will likely be loan moves or free transfers as the EFL were not pleased with their £2.2m move for Kristian Pedersen earlier in the summer. This means that even with their current circumstances, they will be able to sign Mumbongo if they can beat their rivals to his signature.
