Match Preview – Oldham Athletic vs MK Dons

Oldham Athletic are set to host MK Dons on Saturday, with both sides eager to start League Two in style.

Frankie Bunn and Paul Tisdale will be looking to get off to a winning start with their new clubs. Latics have had a strong pre-season, they won four (Ashton United, Curzon Ashton, FC Utd and Girona) and drew one (Nottingham Forest) but lost one (Preston North End). Whereas MK Dons have had a mixed pre-season, winning three (Newport Pagnell Town, St Neots Town and Oxford United), drew one (UD Almería) and lost three (Brackley Town, FC Jumilla, Ipswich Town).

What we can expect from the game?

Frankie Bunn will organise his side to be structure and hard working, this will offer Latics a solid foundation which will be spearheaded by club captain Peter Clarke. Paul Tisdale will make his side play expensive football with fluid movement exemplified by striker Kieran Agard.

Key signings –

Oldham Athletic, Jose Baxter – The 26-year-old is no stranger to Boundary Park and he excelled in a short period and scored 10 goals before being rewarded with a new contract in January 2013. He managed to score 15 times for Latics in 45 appearances during the 2012/13 season and was part of the side which beat Premier League side Liverpool in the FA Cup Fourth Round.

If Baxter works hard and Oldham use him correctly, he could be the best and most effective player in League Two. The technically gifted midfielder, will thrive playing just behind the striker where he can dictate the game and pull the strings.

The 26-year-old has the killer ball to unlock any defence in League Two, so if Latics can regain his confidence and fitness he will be an outstanding piece of business from the club.

MK Dons, Jordan Moore-Taylor – Moore-Taylor has been a stalwart in Exeter’s defence for four years and as a home-grown captain was loved by Exeter’s fans. Only 24-years-old but has a vast amount of League Two experience and could prove to be a coup for Paul Tisdale’s side.

Exeter chairman Julian Tagg said: “Jordan was a reliable, talented hard-working professional, who not only did great things on the pitch, but was a major contributor to our community programmes, with numerous appearances in community, and for that, we thank him for his service and wish him every success in the future.”
