Leeds United fans ask about sell on clause as Spurs ready £30m Cook bid

Lewis Cook was a bona fide, genuine Leeds United Academy graduate. He was brought up in the Thorp Arch set-up – he was Leeds.

He was one of those youngsters that you watch command his position and can’t help shaking your head and reminding yourself of his age. He made his breakthrough at Leeds United in the 2014/15 Sky Bet Championship season, making 37 appearances for the Whites that brought about one assist.

It was clear from the off that Leeds had a baller on their hands, his displays that season demonstrating that. It was hard to believe, at times, that you were watching a 17-year-old in action.

The following season was simply a carbon copy and improvement on the first, Cook being an ever-present apart from a three-game stretch at the start of the campaign whilst serving a red-card suspension for a sending off in the EFL Cup game vs Doncaster Rovers.

It was a season where he scored his first league goal (below):

It was also his last season at Elland Road.

Buoyed and encouraged by his performances and undoubted potential, Bournemouth showed definite interest in the youngster, eventually landing him for a fee of around £6 million. Six Premier League appearances followed in the 2016/17 season, these turning into 29 appearances (two assists) for the Cherries last season.

Now his consistency, prowess and still-untapped potential have seen London side Spurs contemplate a £30 million move for a 21-year-old is said destined to become an England regular in years-to-come. Whilst no official move has been made for Cook’s services, this hasn’t stopped Leeds United fans commenting on Twitter, largely with one thing on their mind – the sell-on clause.

Here’s what some of them are saying as they wake to the news that Cook could be about to command a £30 million fee to move from the south coast to the capital.

At the moment, it is unclear whether or not there is a sell-on fee clause built into Lewis Cook’s contract when he transferred from Leeds United to Bournemouth. By the looks of it though, the majority of Whites fans are hoping that there is.
