Leeds lose out on £11m striker

Leeds United are reported to have had negotiations with former Hull City striker Abel Hernandez earlier in the summer, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Hernandez had been a target of the Yorkshire club all summer and there have been several u-turns and hurdles to get to the final outcome. It is reported that the Elland Road club lost interest with their target after it emerged that the player’s personal demands, including wages and additional fees, would add up to more than £100,000-per-week.

Abel Hernandez was released from Hull City at the end of last season, having had a below par 2017-18 season and feeling the need to cut their wage bill. Hernandez cost the Tigers £11m when they brought him over from Italian side Palermo in the summer of 2014.

The striker was a very prolific one at Championship level for Hull, scoring 28 goals and assisting 4 in just 48 games for the club in the second tier. Marcelo Bielsa is clearly a fan of the Uruguayan international and Copa America winning striker.

The 27-year-old had an injury plagued 2017-18 season, and only managed to play a part in ten games in all competitions, though he scored eight and assisted two in those games. A few weeks ago, it seemed set that Hernandez would be playing his football next season in Russia for CSKA Moscow, though it had been reported on Tuesday that the striker had failed a medical with the Russian club.

Now those reports have been quashed though, as it was confirmed on the official Twitter account of CSKA Moscow, that Abel Hernandez has completed his move to the club.
