Ronaldo Vieira heading towards Leeds exit as club accept Italian offer

Leeds United are on the brink of selling Ronaldo Vieira. The central midfielder landed in Genoa last night to hold talks with Italian side Sampdoria regarding a move to the club. Leeds are said to have accepted a bid of around £6.5 million with add-ons for the England youth international.

This move does look very likely to happen after Leeds accepted the bid and how pre-season has gone so far for the player. Placed in the second XI by Marcelo Bielsa and made captain of that side Vieira originally started in a back three alongside Mateusz Klich and Laurens De Bock before playing in central midfield against Oxford and just over a half at Guiseley before returning to the defence.

Vieira started the game on Sunday against Las Palmas but along with Samu Saiz really struggled to make any sort of impact. It could have been his final farewell to the Elland Road crowd. Marco Giampaolo is a very highly rated coach and Sampdoria are looking to replace Lucas Torreira who joined Arsenal in a big money move earlier this summer.

Sampdoria finished 10th in Serie A last season, behind some very big names but were just ten points off AC Milan in 6th place, an indicator of how well they did. In reality the move for Ronaldo Vieira will do him good, he will be playing in one of the best leagues in the world with some very good players and will be playing against some of the worlds best including Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo.

For Leeds its mixed emotions and this has divided opinion. Some are bitterly disappointed he hasn’t forced his way into the plans of Marcelo Bielsa and others seem happy with the deal. The big question now, will Leeds re-invest the money? The club were already set to land Patrick Bamford in a £7 million deal today, the Vieira deal isn’t as close but is looking very likely.
