Barry Douglas’ wife speaks out after Leeds transfer

Debbie Douglas, the wife of new Leeds United signing Barry Douglas, has spoken out on Twitter following Barry’s recent move to Elland Road.

The Scottish full-back completed a switch yesterday from Wolverhampton Wanderers for an undisclosed fee and was an integral part of The Old Gold’s Sky Bet Championship campaign last season, where they won the title by nine points, earning promotion back up to the Premier League.

Douglas joined Wolves just a year ago from Turkish side Konyaspor. During his time in the West Midlands, the 28-year-old played 42 times, scoring five goals and providing 15 assists in all competitions. His 14 league assists last term was only matched by fellow Scot, Robert Snodgrass, who spent last season on loan with Aston Villa from West Ham United.

However, two of Wolves’ new signings this summer has seen teenager Ruben Vinagre make his switch to Molineux permanent and Jonny Otto join on loan from Atletico Madrid, both of which play at left-back.

These two acquisitions showed that it was highly unlikely that Douglas would feature much in the Premier League in the coming season, leading to his exit.

Many Wolves supporters were disappointed that Douglas has departed Molineux following his superb campaign last season, whilst other fans prefer Jonny and Vinagre as the club’s options at left-back.

Earlier today, Douglas’ wife, Debbie, took to Twitter to express her thoughts on the transfer from Wolves to Leeds. She describes the move as being out of their control, but she still sees Wolverhampton as a special place to her and Barry, especially following the birth of their first child in the city last month.

Leeds face Spanish side Las Palmas in their final pre-season friendly of pre-season later today, before beginning their Championship campaign against Stoke City at Elland Road next Sunday.
