Accrington Stanley pick up surprise win over Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers

Accrington Stanley finished their pre-season with a surprise 1-0 pre-season friendly win over Blackburn Rovers.

Accrington have had a great pre-season so far, not losing any of their friendlies though non-league Southport did hold them to a 1-1 draw in their last match. Blackburn have also had a good pre-season as they prepare for their return to the Sky Bet Championship and won their last match against Premier League Everton 3-0.

The game took place in rainy conditions with the heavens deciding to pour on the Crown Ground after the recent heat wave which has dominated headlines across the country. And it was early on when Accrington took advantage to score the first and only goal of the game. Kayden Jackson was able to beat the Blackburn defence with his defence and he passed it back to Billy Kee who continued his form from last season and blasted it into the net.

Blackburn had several chances but they were never able to break through and get the equaliser they needed. Jacob Davenport was one of Blackburn’s best players but while he had plenty of chances to score, he always seemed to miss. His header following Jonny Maxted’s poor handling went over and then his curling shot was tipped past the post.

In the end, Accrington would get a huge morale boosting win ahead of the new season. Their first game of the Sky Bet League One season will be against Gillingham. Blackburn will hope to forget about this as they take on Ipswich Town in the opening game of their Sky Bet Championship campaign.
