Martyn Waghorn, “Nothing’s at a value that I think can make us seriously consider” – Hurst comments on Waghorn transfer saga

“Nothing’s at a value that I think can make us seriously consider” – Hurst comments on Waghorn transfer saga

Paul Hurst has commented on Ipswich Town’s position over Martyn Waghorn, stating that there have not yet been any bids that have tested the resolve of the Tractor Boys, The East Anglian Daily Times report.

After an Open Day at Portman Road, Ipswich Town manager Paul Hurst informed Ipswich fans the current situation regarding striker Martyn Waghorn.

Hurst said:

“There have been bids, not only from them [Derby], Sheffield United made a bid but unless anything’s changed that I haven’t been made aware of, nothing’s been at the values which I’ve seen reported and nothing’s at a value that I think can make us seriously consider that.”

Hurst has admitted that the situation is difficult for himself, Waghorn and the club:

“It’s a difficult situation, there’s no getting away from that, it’s not ideal, for the player, the football club, for me as manager, but it is football and we know it happens.”

“At the minute, my advice to Martyn is that he’s got to be professional, he’s got to get on with it and make sure that if something does happen, what he doesn’t want to do is slip backwards in terms of his levels of performance for if he ended up elsewhere. And if he stays here, he needs to be ready to contribute greatly as we know he can.”

Ipswich striker Waghorn has been the subject of significant interest from Derby, Sheffield United and Middlesbrough this summer after a successful last campaign. The 28 year-old scored 16 and assisted 13 in 44 appearances for the Tractor Boys last season.

Interest from Derby County could slow down after they announced the signing of Jack Marriott from Peterborough United this morning. The striker could yet remain at Portman Road, with just 13 days left to seal permanent deals before the window slams shut.
