Leeds United are in transfer crisis – and it’s bad

It’s 11 days until Leeds United’s 2018/19 season gets underway – and the club are yet to make a recognizable senior signing ahead of this forthcoming season, the fans are growing impatient as the club are failing to put their foot down on transfers and key players are being let loose – rather than being fought for.

The West-Yorkshire club have managed to attract Argentinian manager Marcelo Bielsa to the club, but he’s well-known for walking away from clubs when things aren’t going his way – and if transfers don’t go his way, it’s possible he could up sticks and go from his most recent project at Elland Road.

Here’s a list of players Leeds United have been linked with during this summer:

  • Abel Hernandez
  • Matej Vydra
  • Jerry Mbakogu
  • Kyle Bartley
  • Jordan Hugill
  • Jonathan Kodjia
  • Angus Gunn
  • Phil Foden
  • Harry Wilson
  • Brahim Diaz
  • Jack Marriott
  • Marcus Maddison
  • Oliver McBurnie
  • Domingos Quina
  • Ryan Kent

This list isn’t exhaustive by any means – but the fact the club have failed to bring a single one of those players to Elland Road on a permanent deal sets a worrying precedent for Whites fans ahead of the new season.

With fans becoming increasingly worried that the team will enter the new season unprepared, that Marcelo Bielsa hasn’t had a full pre-season with any transfers who will join up with the club in the coming weeks and furthermore, that the club actually need to make some signings; things look bleak for Leeds United.

Although the club has brought in Jamal Blackman and Lewis Baker on loan from Chelsea – this simply masks poor recruitment during a summer Leeds United really needed to have a go in the transfer market.

We’ll see if the clubs fortunes change; but it doesn’t look positive for the Elland Road faithful.
