Former Aston Villa star potentially angles at Football League return

Former Aston Villa star John Terry has publicly denied that he is retiring, and this could potentially pave the way for him to make a return to the Football League.

On his Instagram post he wrote “Just to confirm I haven’t retired, I’m currently enjoying my holidays with my family and weighing up ALL my options.” This cryptic comment could be interpreted that he could potentially still be wanting to finish his career in England rather than follow the footsteps of some of his former team mates and move across the pond to America.

The former England captain made 32 appearances for Villa last season, but left at the expiration of his contract when they failed to gain promotion, losing to Fulham in the Sky Bet Championship Play Off Final. Many thought that this would be the final campaign of his very much glittered career where he made close to 500 appearances for Chelsea and 78 for his country, however as he states in no uncertain terms in his post, he’s not ready to hang up his boots just yet.

It’s fair to say the 37 year old would be met with a wealth of options wherever he chooses to spend the highlight of his career, and having been linked with Manchester United of all clubs, some teams in the Championship may have some stiff competition. If it isn’t a reunion with former boss Jose Mourinho, then there have also been links that he may be teaming up once more with former Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard, who recently took over the reigns at Derby County.
