Swansea City announce squad for European tour

Sky Bet Championship side Swansea City have announced their squad for a tour of Austria and Germany.

The Swans head to the Continent today for an eight-day tour ahead of the Sky Bet Championship opener at Sheffield United in two week’s time.

Graham Potter’s side will play two 60-minute games, against FC Magdeburg and Genoa, in Germany tomorrow before heading to Austria where they face friendlies against against Eibar and SC Freiburg, representatives of La Liga and Bundesliga.

Potter named three goalkeepers as part of his tour squad. Erwin Mulder and Steven Benda join Kristoffer Nordfelt who returns following a breaking after his involvement at the World Cup.

Eight defenders will travel to the Continent, however Martin Olsson will remain at home until the Swans return to Fairwood.

Summer recruits Joel Asoro and Yan Dhanda join twelve other midfield and wide players heading on tour, along with three strikers – Oli McBurnie and the Ayew brothers.

Potter’s squad does not involve a number of players due to injury. Frontman Wilfried Bony continues to nurse his injury, while central defender Alfie Mawson will remain in Wales following an operation due to a knee injury.

Leroy Fer, whose ruptured Achilles has seen him sidelined since February, will travel to the Continent but will be continuing rehabilitation work rather than gathering minutes.
