Derby frustrated as Peterborough rejected three bids for Marriott

Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony has revealed that the club have turned down three bids from Sky Bet Championship side Derby County for in-demand striker Jack Marriott. The Peterborough Telegraph reports this, as a YouTube interview is set to be produced by the club later today.

Marriott is one of the most wanted prospects in the EFL this summer. Over the last few seasons he has scored goals for fun and this has led to several in the league above expressing an interest in the player. None more so than Derby, who have had three offers turned down. It remains to be seen if they will return with an improved price.

Bristol City, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and also Sky Bet League One title favourites Sunderland have been touted as wanting the player as well. Marriott scored 27 league goals last season and he himself might wish to test himself at a higher level. However, Peterborough hold all the cards in this particular duel, and they will not let him go without receiving the fee they want. MacAnthony states that Derby have not reached that amount,

“Derby have made three bids for Jack and we’ve turned them all down. The bids involved slightly different offers and we’ve told Jack about them all.

“We have a valuation of a 23-year-old, lightning fast striker who won the League One Golden Boot last season.”

It is another intriguing development in the future of this Peterborough talent. Clubs continue to line up for his signature but are determined to pay what they value him at. His parent club clearly value him much more at this stage, but negotiations should continue.
