Millwall warn Rangers that centre-back is not for sale

Sky Bet Championship club Millwall are believed to have warned Glasgow giants Rangers that defender Jake Cooper is not for sale this summer according to News Shopper.

The 23-year-old Ascot-born defender joined The Lions last summer and enjoyed a successful first season at The New Den as Millwall defied the odds to record a respectable eighth place finish in the league table.

New Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is thought to be an admirer of the centre-back and the Ibrox club are understood to have submitted transfer offers up to £3 million for the player.

It has now been reported that Millwall have warned Rangers off the player with the South London club insisting that Cooper will not be sold this summer.

Cooper is a product of the Reading academy system and the player went on to make 56 senior appearances for The Royals in which he scored four goals. The defender spent the second half of the 2016/2017 campaign on loan at Millwall and after helping the club to promotion, Cooper signed a three-year deal with The Lions a little under 12 months ago.

In his first full season with Millwall, Cooper made 42 appearances in all competitions while he weighed in with four goals, his greatest seasonal goalscoring return to date. Another big season is expected from the youngster as Millwall look to again surprise many pundits in the Sky Bet Championship.
