Swansea City’s Alfie Mawson is attracting interest from Burnley according to reports from Sky Sports News.
Ever since Swansea were relegated from the Premier League it has become more likely that they are going to have to sell Mawson. It was going to be tough to keep him if they had stayed up because he had consistently been one of their best performers during their time in the top tier but now that they are facing a season in the Sky Bet Championship, it is almost definite that he will be leaving.
Mawson has already attracted plenty of interest with West Ham United seeming to lead the race to sign him. But now Burnley have joined that chase to sign the former Barnsley man as they look to improve their own defence. They are playing in the Europa League this season after a shockingly good 7th place finish last season but need better players if they want to have a good run in the tournament. And they have identified Mawson as the ideal man to improve their defence.
However, while the two teams are in talks over a potential move, there is still a lot of work to do before a deal can be done. The two teams are still a distance apart in their valuations of the player and it may be some time before they can agree on a deal. But if Burnley want to sign him they may have to do it quickly before another team is able to sneak a deal.
