Middlesbrough fans want to see two youth players in the first team next season after impressing in pre-season

Middlesbrough fans have taken to social media to express their opinion on last night’s pre-season friendly defeat to Bundesliga side Augsburg, and two names are cropping up more often than not.

Middlesbrough suffered a 2-1 defeat in Germany, as they played Augsburg in their third pre-season game before the start of the Championship campaign in just two weeks time.

The game was stop-start, and Augsburg looked more up for the game than the Teessiders, who failed to create too many chances and deservedly lost the game.

But two players certainly stood out, Middlesbrough’s goal-scorer Lewis Wing, and 20-year old Harry Chapman.

Wing spent the second half of last season on loan at League Two side Yeovil Town, and the Glovers’ manager Darren Way has already expressed an interest in re-signing the attacking midfielder. However, Tony Pulis may have to see off any suitors and keep him at the club for next season if yesterday’s performance is anything to go by.

Middlesbrough fans have shown their support for Wing, with many supporters thinking he deserves a shot in the first team next season.

However, this Middlesbrough fan may be getting slightly carried away, backing Wing to reach double figures in the Championship next season.

As well as Wing, plenty of Middlesbrough fans expressed their desire to see Harry Chapman feature in the first team squad too. Chapman has been on the peripherals of the squad for a number of seasons, and has impressed out on loan at various clubs over the past few seasons.

Successful spells at Bristol City, Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers have done the world of good for the attacking midfielder, and it is promising to see another young talent given a chance for Middlesbrough under Tony Pulis.
