Peterborough United lose out by solitary goal to Maritimo

Peterborough United lost 1-0 to Portuguese side Maritimo in last night’s pre-season friendly.

The Posh have had a busy pre-season so far. They are unbeaten so far after picking up wins against Stamford, Bedford Town, Peterborough Sports and St Neots Town but ended up losing their first friendly of the summer.

It was a tight game in the first half and either side could have got the first goal of the game. There was some good play by Peterborough which allowed Jason Naismith to find Matthew Stevens in space in the but his shot was well saved. Maritimo could have taken the lead with a long shot but Aaron Chapman was able to keep it out with ease.

However in the second half, Maritimo would take the lead. Peterborough weren’t able to hold onto the ball and Ricardo Valente was able to take advantage by firing the ball into the bottom corner. While the Posh tried to fight back and get an equaliser, and came close with attempts from George Cooper and Mark O’Hara being well saved.

But in the end, Peterborough were not able to get an equaliser and suffered their first loss of pre-season. Though with the chances they created during the game, Peterborough will be happy with some of the work they did in this match and will have plenty to take going forward.

Peterborough’s next match will be against Louletano on the 21st July. Their Sky Bet League One campaign will be against Bristol Rovers on the 4th August.
