After a raft of good signings, Nottingham Forest are tipped to be amongst the favourites for promotion from the Sky Bet Championship – some even going as far as saying they are this next season’s Wolves.
Last season a Jorge Mendes transfer influenced Wolves fair romped to the Championship title driven by the likes of £16 million purchase Ruben Neves and a host of well-selected and key loan deals.
Forest are said to be heading down that route themselves, having brought in marquee signing Joao Carvalho from Benfica for a reported £13 million and teammate Diogo Gonçalves on a season-long loan deal.
The Portuguese duo are joined by Bournemouth striker Lewis Grabban, who is lethal at this level, and the likes of Michael Dawson and Tobias Figueiredo. It is a team that is building for promotion.
Yesterday they had a stern test against a Real Betis side who finished sixth in La Liga, beating Champions League winners Real Madrid along the way. It was a test they performed well in, going down 1-0 to a late Ryad Boudebouz strike.
It was a game and performance that has definitely gotten Nottingham Forest fans talking on Twitter. Here’s some of what the Forest fans are saying after the close loss to La Liga side Betis.
1-0 Betis. Some encouraging signs though and a very good test against decent opposition x

Forest was in charge most of the second half Cash Yates and guedioura bossed it we looked so good and exciting going forward think the subs stopped our play tho. When betis turned it on tho they was class and too good for our defence good all round test int the end. #nffc

Betis are a very competitive side in a very good league, it was a test for our lads and they put in a solid showing. Oh, and it’s pre season. No need to read too much into it. #NFFC

Positive test. Real Betis beat @realmadrid last season at home

From what I did see from the stream, mainly second half. We looked a threat attacking with pace.
Midfielder and attackers making direct runs at goal, a few roulettes and good moves. Betis have a very good side and considering all the chamges- very positive outlook #nffc #Excited— Pank (@Panks80) July 14, 2018
All over here… #nffc were organised and looked solid, with moments of attacking threat on the break – but they are beaten by a solitary late goal. Promising display, still. Betis are a good side.

People forgetting this is the same Real Betis team that finished 6th and won at the Bernabeu last season #nffc
