Morecambe come from behind to beat Alfreton Town

Morecambe came from behind to beat Alfreton Town 3-2 in a pre-season friendly.

Morecambe got their pre-season off to a good start when they beat Bamber Bridge 2-1 on the 10th July. But getting some momentum in pre-season can help when it comes to the season proper so getting a win in this match against Alfreton is important.

And the game started off well as Morecambe was able to get the first goal of the match. With some impressive play, they were able to counter attack after a key interception with the move ending with Jason Oswell crossing the ball into Adam Campbell who was able to tap it in.

But that lead didn’t last for very long. Alfreton got an attacking free kick and were able to cross the ball in for Luke Shiels who happily headed it in for the equaliser. And just a few minutes later they got the lead when Alfreton put in a long throw-in which eventually ended up at the far post for the lanky Tom Denton to head in.

But Morecambe were able to show some resolve to get back into the game and eventually win. From a well worked free kick, they managed to find Campbell with space to finish for his second of the game. They did miss a chance to take the lead when new signing Liam Mandeville missed a penalty but they got their winner when Lamin Jagne’s shot was saved only for Carlos Mendes Gomes to gobble it up and score.
