“He’s a player that I like” – Sunderland boss speaks out about Bradford striker

Sunderland boss Jack Ross has confirmed that Bradford City striker Charlie Wyke is a target for the club this summer, as the Black Cats look to gain instant promotion back to the Championship.

The Bantams striker was in fine form for the club last season as he hit 15 goals in League One.

As well as finding the back of the net on 15 occasions, he also registered 7 assists for the Yorkshire club.

Sunderland found goals hard to come by last season, and Ross has identified Wyke as a possible solution to the Black Cats woes in front of goal.

The new Sunderland boss has submitted an offer for the former Carlisle striker, but it was rejected by Michael Collins.

Speaking to the Shields Gazette, Ross said: “He’s a player that I’ve known about before I came to England and I think, when you see the department we need to strengthen in and the type we need to strengthen, he’s player that I like.

“Obviously he’s contracted to another club and we need to see how that progresses over the coming days as well.”

Wyke is no stranger to playing his football in the North of England, having previously had spells with Middlesbrough and Carlisle.

It is understood that Bradford could be persuaded in to selling their top scorer from last season, but Sunderlands offer would have to be significantly increased.

Ross looks determined to land the Bradford striker this summer, but will have to table a much higher bid in order to sign Wyke.
