Forest Green Rovers in stunning 6-6 draw with Weston-Super-Mare

Forest Green Rovers took part in a barely believable 6-6 draw with non-league Weston-Super-Mare in a pre-season friendly.

Forest Green have been in good form during their pre-season campaign so far. They opened things up with a 2-0 win over Brinscombe and Thrupp before following that up with a 3-1 victory over Torquay United. But you could barely believe what happened at their friendly last night.

At first, it seemed like Forest Green were going to cruise to victory. Former Weston-Super-Mare man Dayle Grubb switched the ball to Troy Archibald who then cut inside but finishing to continue his good pre-season form. Christian Doidge was then taken down in the box by the goalkeeper before he stepped up to score the penalty to make it 2-0.

However Weston-Super-Mare then fought back. They did well to isolate Farrend Rawson before finding Jamie Lucas in space who was able to finish to get their first goal of the game. Just two minutes later, Jacob Jagger Crane headed in at the far post to make it 2-2.

Ten minutes later, Forest Green got back into the lead. Their first ball into the box was cleared but it landed at the feet of Grubb who then scored against his former team. Doidge then got a brace with his first coming from a one-on-one before netting another from a spot kick. However Lucas scored another goal for Weston-Super-Mare just before the end of the half to make it an already stunning 5-3.

Forest Green got their final goal of the game early on into the second half when Archibald got his second of the game with a great curler. But then Weston-Super-Mare would rally back in a stunning second half display.

New signing Ben Swallow was the first man to get one back he put one through the Forest Green goalkeeper’s legs. Louis McGrory got another back for Weston-Super-Mare and the stunning comeback was completed when a trialist found the bottom corner. That sealed a stunning 6-6 draw.
