Nottingham Forest set to miss out as Brazilian target edges close to France switch

Nottingham Forest have enjoyed a wonderful transfer window so far, but they are about to suffer their first piece of disappointment as one of their targets Fabio Da Silva edges closer to completing a move to the French top flight.

Defensively, Forest still need to be strengthened, and with Armand Traore set to leave the club in the coming days, the left side of Aitor Karanka’s defence is one area that particularly needs to be improved.

However, they are set to miss out on the Middlesbrough defender, as he looks set to complete a move to French side FC Nantes.

This is according to French media outlet Ouest-France. The fee discussed is somewhere in the region of £1.7 million.

Fabio played under the guidance of Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka during Karanka’s time at Middlesbrough, but even the appeal of playing under his former manager has not tempted the Brazilian defender into a move to the East Midlands.

Although Fabio has never really lived up to the potential he had during his time at Manchester United, Nottingham Forest will be disappointed to miss out on signing him.

Fabio came through the youth set-up at Brazilian club Fluminense before making the move to England in 2007.

The full-back was on the books at Old Trafford for six years, but was unable to hold down a place in the first eleven.

Instead, he was loaned out to Queens Park Rangers for the 2012/13 season before joining Cardiff City permanently in 2014.

Fabio spent two years at the Welsh club before completing a move to Middlesbrough, who at the time had just been promoted to the Premier League.
