Ipswich Town win race for Peterborough United winger

Ipswich Town have won the race for in demand Peterborough winger Gwion Edwards, according to a report from the Bristol Post.

He recently handed in a transfer request at London Road in order to push through a move away, and the Tractor Boys look set to secure his services.

He has made 74 appearances during his time at the Posh, scoring 16 goals for the club, as well as registering 9 assists.

He made 33 appearances for Steve Evans’s side last season, enjoying a successful campaign where he scored 7 goals and turned provider on 5 occasions.

He has been attracting the attention of a number of Championship clubs, but Paul Hurst looks to have won the race for the Welshman.

Hurst has recently taken over Town after leaving Shrewsbury at the end of last season.

He masterminded an unbelievable season for the Shrews, but fell at the final hurdle as they were defeated by Rotherham in the Playoff Final.

Edwards now looks set to become his third signing of the summer after the arrivals of Trevor Chalobah from Chelsea and Jordan Roberts from Crawley.

it is understood that a fee has now been agreed between the two parties and Edwards has begun negotiating personal terms with the East Anglian club.

Edwards joined Peterborough from Crawley in 2016 on a three year deal for an undisclosed fee.

He has one year left on his current deal with the Posh, but they are now ready to cash in on him, rather than risking losing him on a free transfer next summer.

The winger will be an astute acquisition by Paul Hurst, as he looks to mount a promotion charge at Portman Road next season.
