Stoke City in pole position to land Liverpool winger on loan

Stoke City are in pole position to land Liverpool winger Harry Wilson on a season-long loan, according to The Times.

The Potters’ winger Xherdan Shaqiri is set to join Liverpool for a fee in the region of £13 million and they want Harry Wilson to head the other way as part of the deal.

Wilson is highly-rated by the Premier League side and signed a new five-year contract this week. He is expected to leave them on loan again in this transfer window to gain some more first-team experience. There is interest from the likes of Aston Villa, Swansea City, Middlesbrough and Hull City, but Stoke appear to winning the race now.

The 21-year-old spent the latter part of last season on loan at Hull City in the Championship and was very impressive for the Tigers. He scored 7 goals in 14 games and helped lift them up the table after a difficult start to the season.

Wilson joined the Reds when he was 8 years-old and progressed through the youth ranks at the Anfield club. He gained his first taste of senior first-team football during a loan spell at Crewe Alexandra 2015. As well as being a regular for Liverpool’s youth sides, Wilson represented Wales at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level. He also became the youngest ever player to play for their senior side when he came off the bench aged just 16 in October 2013 against Belgium.

Harry Wilson is an exciting talent and would be a very impressive loan signing for Stoke City in the Championship.
