Nottingham Forest set to sign £15m rated Champions League goalkeeper

The Hartlepool Mail has reported via Portuguese media outlet Record that Nottingham Forest look set to sign £15m rated Champions League goalkeeper, Burno Varela from Benfica.

This is exciting news for Nottingham Forest fans who were simply pleased they even signed Costel Pantillimon in the transfer window, let alone the 23-year-old goalkeeper Varela who has featured in Portugal’s international squad, alongside being part of Benfica’s squad during the 2017-18 squad.

Given the fact Varela is only 23, he’s particularly young for a goalkeeper, and a move to the City Ground would enable him to realize his full potential as a number on for Forest during this forthcoming season, one in which the Reds are being heavily tipped for promotion.

Varela will want to impress if he makes a move to the City Ground, so he can reach the Premier League and directly compete with Wolves’ Rui Patricio who currently occupies the number one spot for the Portuguese National Team.

Varela has featured for Benfica in the Champions League, which shows the fact that he is an exciting young talent, playing against CSKA Moscow in a 2-1 loss to the Russian side during the group stages this season.

Varela has impressed despite a stuttering start to his career with Benfica, with the shot-stopper picking up a man of the match award against Portuguese giants Porto in a 0-0 draw, showcasing the goalkeeper’s talents and ability.

Forest fans will be getting rightly excited about any potential transfer for Varela – and if he moves, he could be one of the biggest emerging talents in the whole of the Football League. The Nottingham Post has suggested the goalkeeper would cost a reported £15m, but one thing is for certain, he’d be worth it.
