Wigan tracking Leicester City defender

Wigan Athletic are chasing Leicester City defender Callum Elder after he impressed during a loan spell at the DW Stadium last season.

According to Wigan Today, the left back remains part of Paul Cook’s thinking in the transfer window.

The Australian was drafted in by the Latics boss last season and he helped Wigan win the League One title.

The Tics are now preparing for life back in the second tier and want to bring Elder back to the club on a permanent basis.

Fellow League One title winner Christian Walton has signed another loan deal with the club which will see him playing Championship football next season.

The 23 year old has failed to establish himself at the King Power Stadium and has spent five spells away from the Foxes on loan.

He made 15 appearances for Wigan last season, and Paul Cook isn’t ruling anything out this transfer window.

Speaking to Wigan Today, he said: “Everything’s a possibility at this time of year. “There’s so much that goes into deals these days – transfer fees, wages, agents, expectations – things do take time.

“And while we’re not ruling anybody in, we’re certainly not ruling anybody out.

“For what Callum’s done at this club last year, he would certainly be on the list.”

Wigan suffered instant relegation last time they were in the Championship and Paul Cook will be hoping he can prolong their status in the second tier next season.

With no senior left back in the side, Elder would be the perfect fit ahead of Wigan’s opening game against Sheffield Wednesday.
