How did Nottingham Forest become so good at signing players in this transfer window?

It’s no secret that Nottingham Forest have brought in a lot of new players in the transfer window thus far, with the Championship side bringing in nine players so far.

The thing is, that after several seasons of mid-table mediocrity, struggling performances and managerial merry-go-rounds, Forest look solid as a club who could well be targeting promotion this season.

The key factor behind everything seems to have been patience. It’s clear that Forest have had several struggling seasons but T the same time, it’s arguable the club have simply being biding their time.

With the Reds bringing in signings from Premier League and the top division in Portugal, it becomes obvious that the club have simply been waiting, saving their money and then using a season in which they’ve created a domino effect.

With the club saving funds from big transfers in the past and being under new ownership, they’ve been able to spend big on Benfica’s Joao Carvalho and bring in his teammate Diogo Goncalves on a loan deal. This has created a domino effect and other Portuguese players have seen that Forest is now an attractive prospect such as Monaco’s Gil Dias, who has opted for a move to the Championship side.

Make no mistake though, current players have been key. New striker Soudani was convinced to join the club by Algerian teammate Guadiora, Jack Robinson was convinced to join Forest after his time with Joe Lolley at Huddersfield Town. Whilst Aitor Karanka’s management is also a factor in bringing players to the club, using the players themselves to encourage others to move is a genius method of bringing new talent into the club.

Finally, Jorge Mendes has been a huge help towards helping Forest attract the players they want, but if everything else hadn’t have been in place, the super agent wouldn’t have probably entertained the thought of making Forest his next project.

The Reds already have nine new players, but expect more; as Nottingham Forest mean business.
