Hull City are set to sign PSV Eindhoven defender

Hull City are set to sign PSV Eindhoven centre-back Jordy de Wijs, according to journalist Rik Elfrink.

Hull City are set to sign PSV Eindhoven centre-back Jordy de Wijs, and would add more strength and depth to their defence.

De Wijs is a product of the PSV youth academy, spent most of last season on loan at Excelsior after finding first-team opportunities limited in Eindhoven.

Former Hull City defender Michael Dawson returned to former club Nottingham Forest after his contract expired, Jordy de Wijs could fill the void left by the veteran defender. Improving their defence is clear priority for a Hull side who conceded 70 goals in the Championship last season.

Earlier today, Hull City completed the signing of defender Reece Burke to the KCOM Stadium from West Ham United for an undisclosed fee.

Reece Burke has signed a three-year deal with an additional one-year option held by the Club and adds further to the Hull’s defensive options for the new season.

“I’m over the moon to have signed for Hull City,” said Burke.

“I enjoy playing football and I see this move as a big opportunity for me. I’ve had a good chat with the Head Coach and I know that the Club were really keen to bring me here. That is a nice feeling to have.”

The defender has spent the majority of the last two seasons in the Championship with Wigan Athletic and Bolton Wanderers respectively, and he won the Player of the Season award during a season-long loan at Bradford City in 2015/16 a year after being named West Ham’s Young Player of the Year.
