According to The Scottish Sun, Middlesbrough defender Hayden Coulson is set to join Scottish side St Mirren on a season-long loan.
Left-back Hayden Coulson has been subject to interest from St Mirren so far this window, and the Scottish club are looking to secure a loan deal for the 20-year old.
The defender is very versatile and can also play as a left-midfielder, and will be a welcome addition to St Mirren. His tall stature also allows him to play as a central-defender. The youngster will likely get useful playing time in Scotland, and could force himself into the Middlesbrough fold in years to come.
Coulson has been a mainstay in Boro’s youth systems, and has played at most age groups for the club. He is seen as one for the future at Middlesbrough, and signed his first contract as a teenager. Just three months ago in April, Coulson signed a new long-term deal with the Teessider’s.
He featured in Middlesbrough’s EFL Trophy campaign for the under-21 side, playing against Blackpool Town and Accrington Stanley in the group stages. However, Boro finished bottom of the group with zero points.
St Mirren manager Alan Stubbs, once of Everton, is looking for reinforcements for the upcoming campaign, as they will be looking to cement their status in the Scottish top flight after promotion last season.
Coulson’s versatility will stand him in good stead at St Mirren. Usually youngsters’ opportunities arise through injuries to first-team players, and with Coulson’s ability to play a number of positions, the possibility of first-team action is more likely than not.
