Three Championship signings you may have missed

With Championship clubs spending more money than ever, the majority of signings don’t always get noticed by the average Football League fan.

Here’s three signings that could prove to be hidden gems amidst a number of big money deals in the Championship so far.

Teemu Pukki

After a torrid time at Sevilla, the 28-year-old Finnish stirker found his feet back in his homeland at HJK Helsinki where averaged a goal every two games, which isn’t bad for a striker who was told he’ll never truly score goals by coaches at Sevilla.

The striker has enjoyed time at Celtic and then moved to Brøndby, where he scored 45 goals in 98 appearances, earning him a move to promotion pushing Norwich City. He’s not a household name, but don’t let that fool you, his deadly eye for goal and his aerial ability makes him a nuisance for any defence in the Championship.

Diogo Gonçalves

Signed on a loan with a view to a permanent option come summer, Gonçalves is one of many talented products to come out of the Benfica academy. He is the lesser known of the two Portuguese signings, with Jõao Carvalho fetching the limelight with his £13.2m fee, but Gonçalves shouldn’t be ignored.

Forest have been lacking a dynamic winger since the departure of Oliver Burke, but with fast feet, an eye for goal and exceptional vision, there is no doubt that Gonçalves will certainly turn some heads come to the start of the Championship season.

Adam Webster

Born and raised in Chichester, Webster played his way through the youth ranks of Portsmouth to the first team, where he made 67 appearances before joining Ipswich Town in the summer of 2016.

His solid performances for the rather mediocre Tractor Boys over the past two years has earnt him a deal with play-off hopefuls Bristol City, a side looking rejuvenated under the management of Lee Johnson.

The 6ft 3 centre-half will fit in well at The Robins, who have been on the lookout for a new rock in the heart of their defence after losing Aden Flint to Championship rivals Middlesbrough.

This signing will add to a strong foundation in the heart of the Robins defence going into the season and hopefully help Bristol City end their long wait for a top-flight promotion.
