Nottingham Forest bid rejected for Premier League winning defender

Nottingham Forest have had a bid rejected from Middlesbrough for full-back Fabio da Silva. The bid was believed to be in the region of £300,000, according to The Northern Echo.

Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka is keen to be reunited with Brazilian defender Fabio, who he signed for Middlesbrough in 2016 from Cardiff City. However, Forest’s bid for the former-Manchester United man has been rejected by Boro.

It is believed that the £300,000 bid was significantly less than Middlesbrough’s valuation of the player. After signing the player for a fee in the region of £2 million, Boro will be hoping to recuperate most of the initial transfer fee they paid to Cardiff City two years ago.

Fabio has expressed his desire to depart the club in the past; favouring a move to his native Brazil. However, the defender has had to play second fiddle to George Friend since Tony Pulis’ arrival at Middlesbrough, and Fabio may look into other options, including Nottingham Forest.

The Brazilian signed for Boro in their Premier League campaign of 2016/17, and impressed in his debut season at the club. He was first choice under Aitor Karanka, and first team football could be a huge pull for the full-back, if Karanka can promise him this at Forest.

Nottingham Forest are also reportedly interested in Middlesbrough striker Patrick Bamford, another player that Karanka signed when he was manager at the club. However, The Northern Echo have also said that Middlesbrough have ‘no interest’ in selling the striker, and have set a £16 million valuation.
