Nottingham Forest could have exciting new target in striker chase

According to the Derby Telegraph, Nottingham Forest continue their quest to sign a forward with reported interest in Ipswich Town striker, Martyn Waghorn.

Waghorn, who is not unfamiliar with the Championship having played for clubs including Leicester City, Hull City, Millwall and Charlton in previous years, made an impressive 46 appearances for Ipswich last year, netting a respectable 16 times in all competitions. He was also involved in 11 more goals showing why there is great interest in the 28-year-old from Nottingham Forest.

Ipswich Town, are under the leadership of new manager Paul Hurst and have also shown an interest in keeping hold of Waghorn as their frontman. As DerbyshireLive suggest, the ex-Rangers man isn’t going to come cheap, having only joined Ipswich last summer from the Ibrox for a fee of around £250,000.

Teams including Middlesbrough have also registered an interest in Waghorn, however, it has been suggested that Forest’s interests in other strikers would depend on the future of Middlesbrough’s Patrick Bamford where there is speculation over him leaving the club.

If Forest were to secure Waghorn, he would join a number of fresh summer recruits that have moved to Forest including Joao Carvalho from Benfica who moved to Forest for a club record fee of £13.2 million. Carvalho’s ex-Benfica teammate Goncalves, who has joined Forest on a season-long loan deal (with an option to buy at the end of the season).

Big signings like these are likely to lead for an exciting season for Forest who hope to build upon their 17th place finish last year, as they look to secure promotion back to the Premier League for the first time since 1999.
