Duo complete medicals ahead of Sunderland moves

Reece James and Dylan McGeouch have completed medicals at Sunderland’s training ground ahead of their moves to the Stadium of Light, according to The Northern Echo.

McGeouch looks set to join the Black Cats after rejecting offers from both Rangers and Aberdeen, as well as turning down a new deal with Hibernian.

Reece James was released by Wigan Athletic at the end of last season after the defender helped the Latics return to the Championship at the first time of asking.

New Sunderland boss Jack Ross is set to undergo a rebuilding job on Wearside this summer as he aims to get Sunderland promoted straight back to the second tier.

It is understood that McGeouch was his number one target coming in to the transfer window and Sunderland have had to battle with League One rivals Coventry in order to sign the Scotsman.

McGeouch made 92 appearances for Hibernian since joining the club, initially on a loan deal from Celtic in 2014.

In 2015, the midfielder joined Hibs on a permanent deal from Celtic on a three year deal and he has gone on to become a firm fan favourite at Easter Road.

His contract with the club is now up and Neil Lennon has confirmed that he will leave on a free transfer.

James came through the ranks at Manchester United but departed Old Trafford in 2015 in favour of a move to Wigan.

The left back made 48 appearances in 3 years for the Latics but his career at the DW Stadium has now come to an end.

Their is an heir of expectation around Sunderland this season and the signings of McGeouch and James will go a long way in helping mount a Playoff push.
