Coventry City sign defender in record-breaking deal

Sky Bet League Two Play-Off winners Coventry City have completed the signing of young centre-back Morgan Williams for an undisclosed fee according to Coventry Live.

The 18-year-old defender joined the Sky Blues from Evo-Stik Premier Division outfit Mickleover Sports following a successful trial with the Coventry City Development Squad towards the end of last season.

It has been reported that Williams has signed a two-year deal at The Ricoh Arena while former club Mickleover Sports have received a club-record transfer fee from the Sky Blues for the player’s services.

Williams made his senior debut for Sports towards the end of the 2016/2017 campaign while he was named in the Evo-Stik Premier Division Team of the Year last season. In addition to his trial at Coventry City, the youngster also spent time training with Sheffield United earlier this year but it is the Sky Blues who were the winners in the race for Williams’ signature.

The defender is likely to continue his development with Coventry City’s Development Squad in the upcoming campaign while Under-23s coach Jason Farndon is expected to provide regular updates on the player’s progress to first team boss Mark Robins.

The signing of Williams is Coventry City’s eighth new addition of the summer with further new arrivals expected during pre-season.
