Morecambe sign well-travelled former Bolton Wanderers winger

Morecambe have signed James Sinclair from Swedish side GAIS on a free transfer as confirmed by the club website.

While Sinclair started in English football having been in the Newcastle United and Sunderland youth systems before landing at Bolton Wanderers for a short time, he made his name abroad. After a short stint with Gateshead, he headed to Sektzia Nes Tziona in Israel and has since played for the likes of Polonia Bytom in Poland, Ljungskile in Sweden and then Ostersunds, also in Sweden.

But now Sinclair is making his return to England after signing a one-year contract with Morecambe. This will be a great opportunity for him to prove he can make it in England after playing across Europe. A good stint in Lancashire would also show several players in England that playing in this country is not the be all and end all and that they can make it abroad.

Following the signing, Morecambe head coach Jim Bentley said: “James has great experience and comes highly recommended by Steven Old. I first saw him play when I was studying Steven this time last season and during the past couple of months I’ve watched a lot of footage of James and think he would be a good addition to our squad.”

“He is a very versatile player who can play in several positions and we are really looking forward to working with him.”

Sinclair could make his first appearance in a Morecambe shirt in the friendly against Bamber Bridge on the 10th July.
