Blackburn Rovers complete deal for Liverpool midfielder

Blackburn Rovers have signed Sam Durrant from Liverpool as confirmed by the club website.

While many fans would like to see one of their first transfers of the summer be of a senior player that would instantly add to the first team, there always need to be additions to the youth side to make sure the future is bright. And that is what Blackburn have done after they confirmed the signing of Durrant from Liverpool with the 16-year-old midfielder unlikely to break into the first team anytime soon.

However he could be a star of the future for the Lancashire club. He has shown great promise while playing for both the Everton and Liverpool youth systems as a teenager and Blackburn had beat out many other teams to get his signature. Durrant will head to the academy side now but it’s likely that head coach Tony Mowbray will be closely watching him over the next few years.

Following the signing, Durrant said: “It’s great, because I believe I’ve got an opportunity here and it’s a great chance for me to progress as a player and as a person,”

“This club provides opportunities for young players to progress and play first team football and hopefully that’s something I can do.

“There are some great players and some good people to work with here, so that can only make me a better player.

“I can’t wait to get going and settle in.”

Durrant will most likely be with the U18 team for pre-season though he may get a chance in the U23s if he impresses.
