The 7 players Marcelo Bielsa doesn’t want at Leeds United

The Yorkshire Evening Post has revealed the names of seven players missing from Leeds United’s return to pre-season training earlier this week. This is a strong indication that new head coach Marcelo Bielsa sees no future for them at the football club under his stewardship.

The Argentinian is now very much settling into new surroundings following his shock appointment with the Sky Bet Championship side. A total of 12 first-team players formed part of the ‘main group’ of their congregation within their pre-season training routine. There were no real surprises within this, but certain players were missing.

It is worth mentioning that Tyler Roberts and Vurnon Anita took no part due to injuries sustained last season.

Marcus Antonsson is seemingly free to leave the football club after he was not spotted on the training pitches. He had a decent loan spell with Blackburn Rovers last season, helping them win promotion. He is primed for a move into Serie A with Brescia. Pawel Cibicki has been a major disappointment since joining from Malmo, and he is another free to move on. Eunan O’Kane enjoyed a decent amount of football last season under Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom, but the Irishman is someone Bielsa isn’t too concerned about losing. Caleb Ekuban endured a frustrating campaign last season and may now seek a fresh challenge elsewhere. Clearly, Bielsa is content for that to be the case. Jay-Roy Grot struggled to make an impact after joining from Dutch football, whilst Hadi Sacko has been out of favour for some time. Andy Lonergan has been linked with a move away from Elland Road for some time and Luke Murphy ended last season out on loan with Burton Albion. These players are free to leave, it would appear.

Laurens De Bock, Yosuke Ideguchi and Mateusz Klich have been training with the Under-23 side, with Bielsa still making his mind up on this trio. However, he probably wouldn’t miss them too much if they did leave, or wanted to do so.
