Town captain set for “exciting” season with Ipswich

Ipswich Town captain Luke Chambers is looking ahead to an “exciting” season, he revealed to iFollow Ipswich.

The Blues skipper spoke positively about the arrival of new boss Paul Hurst, stating that the Blues are already looking ahead to kicking the new League campaign off against Blackburn Rovers in just over a month’s time.

“We’ve had our first session, it was very tough. It’s an exciting start. There’s a lot of excitement around the town and we can’t wait to get started.

“Once these first couple of weeks are out the way we’ll have a lot more smiles on our face,” Chambers joked about the Blues’ rigorous pre-season schedule.

“It’s been a great first day, the lads look pretty fit. It was great to meet everyone, the new staff and we’re now looking forward to getting going.

Despite being Town skipper, Chambers admitted that the arrival of a new manager meant that places in the starting eleven were not guaranteed – regardless of their experience and ability.

“First and foremost for yourself you have to make an impression [to the new manager]. It’s a clean slate for everyone, regardless of what we have done before.” Chambers said.

“Whether it is an experienced player or a new kid coming through, everyone will have an equal opportunity. It’s up to everyone to stake their claim.

“The manager has had a great few years with the Clubs who he’s been at and we’re looking forward to him hopefully bringing that to here, and us being at the right end of the table where we deserve to be.”
