What Aston Villa can expect from the summer transfer window

After suffering heartbreak to Fulham in the Playoff Final, Aston Villa will have to go back to the drawing board again this summer.

The club have also hit a financial crisis this summer and they may be forced to sell some of their main assets in order to fund further incomings.

Villa’s Director of Football Steve Round has eased fans worries ahead of the campaign, and believes that Steve Bruce will build a squad capable of making the fans proud.

This will be the clubs third consecutive season in the second tier having suffered relegation from the Premier League in 2016.

After narrowly missing out on a return to the promised land last season, Round is confident that the club will still be able to attract the right sort of players to Villa Park this summer.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, he said: “I can certainly pinpoint what we expect of an Aston Villa player now – and in the future.

“We want Aston Villa players who will play for the shirt. They have to play with pride for the club, themselves and each other.

“They must be 100 per cent every training session and every game. It’s what Steve Bruce, Colin Calderwood, Stephen Clemence, Steve Agnew and Gary Walsh demand every day.”

Villa have also managed to develop a number of youngsters during their time in the Championship, including Andre Green and Keinan Davis.

That is something that Round wants to continue next season.

“There is definitely high standard setting at Bodymoor Heath. No-one will not accept less than is expected.

“Mark Delaney and Kevin MacDonald in the U23s bridge that gap between performance and winning because the first team is about winning.”

It will be another long season for the Midlanders next season but the fans will be hoping that they can replicate the success that they endured the season previous.
