Posh announce ninth signing of the summer

Peterborough United have announced the signing of Grimsby winger Siriki Dembele on a 3 year-deal.

The 22 year-old joins the Posh after a successful first season in professional football with the Mariners. Dembele made 39 appearances in all competitions, accumulating 4 goals and 3 assists. The winger also won EFL Young Player of the Month award in October.

Dembele is a versatile player, who can play anywhere across the front line, as well as in behind the striker. Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony described Dembele as ‘a bums off seat type player, pace, trickery, goals and assists, youthful exuberance, can play wide, up front, off front man… loves a trick and a dribble’.

In an interview with ThePoshTV, the Ivorian-born winger states he is ‘ready for the challenge’ of League One football, as Posh look to return to the Championship. The Nike Academy graduate goes onto say that he was drawn to the club by the ‘good, attacking football, which is my (Dembele’s) style’.

When speaking to theposh.com, Steve Evans expressed his joy at his latest coup, as well as shock that the deal went through due to the high interest in Dembele, stating he ‘went home believing that this deal couldn’t be done’.

However, the arrival of Dembele hints at the possibility of Gwion Edwards’ departure. The tricky winger has been subject to interest from Championship clubs Bristol City, Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United. The clubs were alerted at the possibility of bringing in the Welshman as negotiations over a new deal at Posh drag on.
