Middlesbrough lodge £5 million bid for Argentina international

Middlesbrough have made a £5 million bid for Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori, as per a report by Stoke-on-Trent Live.

The 27-year-old could leave the Toffees this summer as he is not part of their new manager Marco Silva’s plans for next season.

Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis is looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the next campaign and has moved to sign Funes Mori to bolster his defence. Boro are also looking to sign Sunderland’s Paddy McNair as well.

Pulis is hoping to mount a promotion push for next season after his side lost in the Play-Offs last season over two legs to Aston Villa. The signing of Funes Mori would be a statement of intent by his side.

The centre-back has played for Everton since 2015 when he was signed for £9.5 million from River Plate. He became a key player for them in the Premier League in his first two seasons at the club but injuries meant he only played four times in the last campaign.

Funes Mori started his career in America with FC Dallas but was snapped up by Argentinian giants River Plate as a youngster in 2008. He rose through the youth ranks there and went on to become an important player for them. Funes Mori helped them win the Argentinian top flight title in 2014.

The 19-capped Argentina defender would be a very good signing for Middlesbrough if they are able to pull it off.
