Leeds United striker hunt – second Italian side could scupper chase

Yesterday reports from Italy intimated that Leeds United’s hunt for Abel Hernandez might not be as straightforward as first thought with Serie A side Genoa showing interest. That is compounded by further news of Parma also taking note.

For Leeds United, the need for a consistent goal threat was no more clear than it was last season. After losing the 27-goal threat of Chris Wood in the first few weeks of the new campaign, the onus was shifted on to players such as Kemar Roofe (11 goals) and Pierre-Michel Lasogga (10 goals).

Ultimately though, the consistency of goals was not there and the Whites both stuttered and faltered. So, when the interest in Hernandez was broken mid-May you could forgive Leeds United fans for getting excited.

However, his capture is no closer, despite deep discussions between both sides. Rumours have crept in that Galatasaray, and yesterday Genoa, were also interested in capturing his signature. Now, alongside these reports, there emerges from Italian source Torino Granata news that promoted Serie A side Parma are also interested.

Torino Granata, citing “reports from the Italian and Turkish media” say that currently it is “Parma to dispute…the 27-year-old Uruguayan striker Abel Hernandez.” They also go on to say that Parma join Galatasaray in battling for Hernandez’s signature – a host of other clubs also said to be keeping tabs.

Leeds United fans are riding on the crest of a wave after the recent capture of Marcelo Bielsa to manage the club in next season’s Championship. If they manage to land Hernandez then expect that all to be ramped up to the next level.
