Blackburn Rovers eyeing swoop for League One defender

Blackburn Rovers are keen on a move for Charlton Athletic defender Patrick Bauer, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

Blackburn are hoping to snap up the 25-year-old centre-back for around £500,0000 after being impressed with him in League One last season.

The Rovers boss, Tony Mowbray, is in the hunt for some new signings this summer as he looks to prepare and boost his squad ahead of their upcoming Championship campaign. Bauer, who has played in the second tier before with Charlton, is looking set for a return there with Blackburn wanting to bring him to Ewood Park.

Patrick Bauer moved to England in 2015 to join the Addicks from Maritimo. He could not prevent from relegation to League One in his first season at the club but he has been a key player for them in the past two season in the third tier. He helped them get into the League One Play-Offs last season under Lee Bowyer.

He started his career in Germany with Stuttgart but never made a senior appearance for their first-team. Instead, he was a regular for their reserve team in the 3. Liga before he left them to move to Portugal and sign for Maritimo. Agsin Bauer played for their reserve team but broke into the first-team in 2013 and has also since represented Germany at Under-20 level.

Bauer is a solid defender and would be a shrewd signing for Blackburn Rovers as they look to consolidate their Championship status next season.
