Leeds striker linked with Cellino’s Brescia

What lies in store for one of Leeds’ biggest signings of two summers ago Marcus Antonsson? The Swedish striker cost only £2 million but was given the 10 shirt and was a big deal with Leeds not spending much in recent years.

The reports today are suggesting that there is interest from Italy and Serie B, but not just any club, Brescia. Not clicked as to why they aren’t just any club yet? Brescia are owned by Massimo Cellino, the most controversial owner in Leeds United history and more importantly in this case, the man who brought Marcus Antonsson to Leeds United.

Antonsson spent last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers and did very well when fit, playing a very important part in the club returning back to the Championship at the first time of asking. He bagged some important goals during the season but was hampered by injury. Antonsson wasn’t in the plans under Thomas Christiansen and didn’t impress in the early part of pre-season under the Spanish coach.

Antonsson made an impact under Garry Monk in the early stages of is first season. He bagged a crucial and impressive goal away at Fleetwood Town in the League Cup to take the game to extra time, a game that was rumoured would have been Monk’s last if he didn’t get the win Leeds eventually did. He then scored away at Sheffield Wednesday in the Yorkshire Derby but that was as good as it got and he slowly drifted and eventually struggled to make the squad most weeks.

He has one year left on his deal and if Leeds could recoup some money for the player it would be a result. The problem is he’s probably one of the better strikers at the club with only Caleb Ekuban and Tyler Roberts as out-and-out options in that position currently. Nothing much can be done until Leeds have a head-coach. Tick tock boys!
