According to the Daily Star, West Ham United are ‘close’ to signing Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson and goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski in a double deal that is expected to cost the Premier League club around £27m.
Swansea City defender Mawson has been widely expected to leave the Liberty Stadium and to move back into the Premier League after a relatively impressive season in South Wales with relegated Swansea. The assured centre-back impressed with his calm, relaxed performances at centre-half and has grown massively in confidence over the course of last season.
Mawson has risen through the Football League, featuring for Wycombe Wanderers and Barnsley before he managed to make his big move to the Premier League with Swansea City last season. It’s thought that West Ham United are keen to bring the centre-half down to London to sure up their defence and ensure that the club isn’t embroiled in a relegation battle for this upcoming season.
Fabiasnki moved to Swansea City from Premier League giants Arsenal and has been one of a small group of players who has performed consistently during their relegation from the Premier League. The goalkeeper has been one of the shining lights in a dismal campaign for the Welsh club, so it is little surprise that he finds himself in demand by Premier League West Ham.
The Daily Star suggests that Fabianski is an “immediate priority” for West Ham and that the London club have managed to negotiate his price down to around £7m from an initial £9m.
We’ll see in the coming days if this double deal comes off, but if it does, West Ham will be gaining an emerging English talent and a top-quality experienced goalkeeper for a relatively cheap deal in today’s current transfer market.
